Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Review

By: Andrew Cook

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood takes place right where Assassin's Creed 2 left off, but this time, new features and mechanics have been added to get fans of the series excited, including multiplayer.

ACII only briefly took place in Rome, but in Brotherhood, the city is the entire setting for the game and it is where you set up your base. In Rome, you rebuild storefronts to help the people while trying to put an end to the reign of the Borgia army. The game starts with regrouping for some familiar characters from the other AC games. After you have reunited with some of the guilds, you then start to recruit other killers by rescuing other citizens fighting against the Borgia armies. Once you have recruited other members, you can then assign them to go do a “job” for you. When your assassins complete a task, you gain XP and the ability to upgrade their weapons and armor. Once they reach level 10, they will be initiated into the brotherhood and they will be able to help you in other ways such as calling in an arrow storm on groups of enemies.

When you aren't playing the main story, you can complete faction challenges, improve your skills in virtual challenges, explore secret tombs, leave the animus to learn more about Desmond, or play the new multiplayer mode. In the multiplayer mode, you need to blend into the crowd, follow your target and be aware of the people that are targeting yourself. If you score silent kills you will gain experience and level up and unlock perks to enhance your abilities. There are several mode of online play; Wanted, Alliance, where you work with one other teammate, and Manhunt, where there are 2 teams going after each other. The multiplayer is a very good addition to the AC series and I found it very exciting to play.

This game continues on the great story of the AC series, offers more gameplay elements and online multiplayer. I recommend you play the other 2 games first, but the game does offer a cinematic at the beginning to catch you up on the story if this is your first AC game.
